SAMMIE PORTER, VANESSA LEEDS,
AND KIM YOUNG

While serving on the bridge of the SDF-1, enlisted-rating techs Vanessa Leeds (left), Kim Young (middle), and Sammie Porter (right) gained the nickname “the Terrible Trio,” among less polite names. Irrepressible and expressive, the Terrible Trio served valiantly on SDFs 1 and 2 until their lives were cut short by Khyron’s final attack.

After Captain Henry Gloval (offscreen) shares his conclusions about the uncontrolled automatic firing of the SDF-1's main gun at alien vessels approaching Earth during launching day, Sammie Porter sees the pipe that Gloval brings out of his uniform jacket and says, "No smoking on the bridge, sir!" Also pictured are Bridge Officer Claudia Grant, who groans, and Commander Lisa Hayes, 2009.

Vanessa Leeds reports the descent of a couple dozen objects offshore of Macross Island as the Zentraedi continue their attack, 2009.

The Terrible Trio encounter new recruit Rick Hunter (offscreen), and Kim Young and Sammie recognize him as someone who they think was prowling around a lingerie shop they visited recently, 2010.

"That's Mr. Lingerie!" says Sammie.

Kim explains the Mr. Lingerie incident to Vanessa. Fortunately for Rick, the nickname never catches on.

But as they leave, Sammie remarks, "Lecher!"

On the bridge of the SDF-1, Kim considers the sage advice of Claudia.

Sammie, Vanessa, and Kim burst into a short run upon seeing someone who was missing in action, 2011.

The three take turns hugging the recently returned Lisa. She, along with a few others, managed to escape their Zentraedi captors, 2011.

Look out, men! The Terrible Trio are out on the streets of Macross City, 2012.

They spot their prey. Unbeknownst to the Terrible Trio, these men are micronized Zentraedi spies Rico, Bron, and Konda, who somehow have managed to pass themselves off as Human to anyone they meet aboard the SDF-1.

The spies rejoice in their stolen acquisition—a singing, dancing Minmei doll.

Sammie says what the other two women think, stating that she has never seen a grown man play with dolls.

Learning from Sammie that only children are supposed to play with dolls, the spies reel at this newfound information.

Rico manages to take the ladies' minds off their supposed hobby by saying they work at the disco.

Upon hearing the word "disco," the Terrible Trio pounce, sealing the

spies' fate.

Sammie, Vanessa, and Kim would have relationships with Rico, Bron, and Konda for a time. In recent years, the ex-spies have been gravely ill but were in attendance at Rick and Lisa’s wedding.

The three women continue their service to the RDF aboard the SDF-2 post-War. They speculate about Lisa and Rick's often volatile relationship, 2014.

When Rick makes an obvious attempt to upset Lisa by asking Vanessa out on a date in front of her, Vanessa has a moment of excitement that quickly passes, mentioning to Rick that it's clear Lisa is fond of him, 2014.

After Khyron's cruiser cripples the SDF-2, Captain Hayes, Kim, Vanessa,

and Sammie go aboard the SDF-1 in what would be the ship's final battle, meeting up with Admiral Gloval and Commander Grant (offscreen). Khyron's forces are destroyed but at a terrible price; Lisa becomes the

only bridge crew member to survive the destruction of the SDF-1, 2014.
